P5's victorious at Helensburgh

The p5 team battled the weather to beat Helensburgh A team in the final at the Helensburgh Tournament 2012.

The P5 squad saved their best rugby for the last tournament of the season. We reached the final at Strathendrick the week before but could not quite get past a determined Accies defence. The persistent rain at Helensburgh meant that offloading the ball in the tackle was going to be difficult, but the boys stuck to the plan and showed some fantastic handling despite the wet conditions. The whole squad rose to the challenge and we were very pleased to see Fraser score his first tournament try. Ewan,Lewis, Paul and Jamie were very quickly on to the opposition in defence causing many a turn over. Angus and Quinn broke through the opposition defences in attack to feed the ball to Aidan, Rory, Michael and Will on the wings. In defence the tackling was solid from every player on the field. At one point Ewan was dragged five yards up the field but did not let go!
We have matured as a squad and have recruited some new and very capable young rugby players who have raised the selection stakes. We look forward to next season - 9 a side rugby with the introduction to the scrum and more defined positioning for the backs.
