Games against Bishopton are never easy and this match fell to type against a team who are developing a number of very good young players.

Birkmyre started the game strongly but were finding it difficult to break down a very competent defence. This did not work so well in reverse and it was Bishopton who drew first blood to go into the lead 7 points to nil. Birkmyre had pleenty of opportunities to score after this but again there was no way through although thankfully we were able to thwart a number of Bishopton attacks at the same time. With the half disappearing Gregor McEwan scored an interception try to bring the game back level. This was virtually Gregor's first touch of the ball. kevin added the extras to bring the game level.
And this is where the scores remained for a large part of the game and it was only near the end that gaps appeared which both teams were able to exploint. Birkmyre struck first with a penalty from Kevin followed by a well taken try from Birkmyre man of the Match Callum Hall which followed some good forward work. However just when we hoped this might be enough Bishopton scored to bring the difference back to only 3 points. Another Kevin penalty extended the score but not to a level where we were safe. Bishopton still had a chance and even during the last play opted to run the ball to try to secure the 7 points to sneek the win. However as often happens in these situations the ball was eventually lost and by being out of position a gap opened which was exploited by James Halpin to finish off the game.
A competitive match and it was a shame that an injury to Bishopton back row John Lamb curtailed his contribution or the game could have been closer.
However a very important win for Birkmyre keeps the pressure on at the top of the league. Next week we are at home to Glasgow East...Kick off 2.00PM.
