Tough day at Glasgow East

All clubs have difficult days and this was certainly one for Birkmyre.

Problems started earlier in the week when we realised several players were unavailable and we could only manage to select 19 players some of whom were recent recruits. Two cry offs in the morning of the game plus an injury in the first minute did not help our problems.
That said the first half went Ok once we settled down with tries from Sam Cook Davy Carruth and Gregor McEwan giving us a 17 nil lead. However given most of our side had an average weight of 3 stone the terrible conditions started to disrupt.
Glasgow east got a try back in the second half but another Gregor McEwan try gave us a 22 to 7 lead and that should have been that.
however Glasgow were the stronger team in the closing 10 minutes and scored one good try and another followed from a charge down. They were well worth their bonus point and can justifiably feel they could have achieved more.
there are always positives to be taken from any game and new boys Ben and Fraser both acquitted themselves very well and will be an asset to the club in the future. Calum and Michael worked tirelessly in the forwards and we would have been lost without them. And Ruaridh and Davy both stepped up to the plate when needed. Well done to Gregor as well for his 2 tries and for playing on when clearly not well.
next week we are away to Cumnock. Time to regroup. Starts Tuesday.
