Isle of Arran 14 - Birkmyre 20
A big cup win at Arran
Match Report by Peter Haveron
At what must be the most picturesque location for a rugby match anywhere, Birkmyre claim another scalp from the league above to progress in the bowl.
Whilst not our strongest team, we did travel to Arran with a very competent squad. It was Coach Fozzy’s intention to reward some of the younger players with a start and it was great to see that this decision proved to be a very positive one. These younger players acquitted themselves superbly with Jamie Tennant being awarded Man of the Match.
Arran could not get their game together in the first half and this may have been a combination of a changed team or that they underestimated us. In any case the first half belonged totally to Birkmyre who ran up 20 unanswered points.
The first try came from Niki playing on the wing in this game and the second from Jo Jo who believe it or not received a pass from Callum. The extras and two penalties were supplied by Derek.
To be fair Arran woke up in the second half and Birkmyre were much more on the defensive. A penalty try was conceded followed by a well worked try following an up and under. However too little too late for the Arran boys and Birkmyre finished the game in front teeing up a home tie against Oban in the next round on November 10th.
Many thanks to the Arran boys and supporters for hospitality and we look forward to coming over to this excellent venue again. (If you let us know in advance we will bring over some chill pills for your coach and some ear plugs for you guys).
The young lads also received some Cider Hands punishment on the Ferry Home (Pic attached).
