Birkmyre P7s win EK Tournament

Birkmyre P7s picked up their second trophy of the season at East Kilbride on Sunday. The format was a round robin tournament where the bears were pitched in against EK, Whitecraigs & Ayr.

First up were the hosts EK. It was a tight affair and Birkmyre were not at their best. However they ended up with a victory by 4 tries to 1. Next was Whitecraigs. The overall game play was much better with good rucking and in the latter stages, the ball was being moved well to the wings and a 5-0 victory ensued.

In the final group match Ayr proved to be a tough test. Within 5 mins, Birkmyre were 2 tries down due to some sloppy defensive play. However the boys gave themselves a good talking to and slowly the game turned around and the scores were level at 3 all. Again, the bears used their agility against a heavier team and moved the ball well out wide to run in 2 more tries for a 5-3 victory.

Having won all 3 matches, Birkmyre topped the group and had to play EK again in the final. The other 3 side were equal on points however EK nudged it on the try count back. In the final, the boys were back to their best scoring 2 very early tries and there was no looking back with the final score finishing up 5-0.

The team were delighted to pick up the trophy & their victors medals and the icing on the cakes was Finlay Davidson being named player of the tournament.
