“After the long wait the day is finally here, the opening League game against Sleaford RFC a side who we had two good wins against last year. With nine weeks of preseason training and two games behind us it’s nice to get to the start of the competitive programme. As the season gets underway the progress we have made will be evident but it may take a couple of weeks to fully fall into place.”
“We've recruited well this summer but what is really pleasing is that once again, our squad contains so much local talent and all new and old are keen to impress the new coaching team of Tom Kilburn & Graham Robinson. Going into it with greater strength in depth, will ensure players keep performing as there is genuine competition for places across every position. I believe we have a well-balanced squad that should give us the continuity in selection and the style of game we want to play moving forward. I am very confident that if the right commitment from everyone is given this can be a successful season.”
“As a group we’re not looking too far ahead, particularly focusing on our first game against Sleaford. Even though we did the double on them last year we certainly will be respecting them coming down this Saturday. However we are at home and the management team will expect our group of players we selected to work hard for each other and express themselves on the pitch”.
“The whole club are all excited to get the 2017-18 season underway and everyone associated with the squad are proud to represent the Leicestershire village of Birstall, were ambitious and will give 100% in every game. My message to our supporters is, you are our 16th man on a Saturday and our goal is to give you and our club sponsors lots to cheer about this season. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Sleaford to our new home at the Coop ground this Saturday where hopefully the local community will come out and support future of Birstall RFC!"
Thank you for your support in advance
