Warwick Cavern 1 - 2 BIFC
Joel the Goal rescues Bishops
In terms of preparation, this was as textbook a Sunday morning as you get.
An unavailable list of around 15 would be starters, saw Bishops rock up to Aylesford slightly under strength. Matters were made worse, when a 14 man squad was decimated - Nathan had too much falling down juice the night before and didnt make it, nor did assistant Rutter. At 10:15, it dawned on those that had arrived that we only had 11 outfield players ready to start, with Joel running late and Simmo going to the home ground instead of Aylesford.
Bradshaw had a "bug" from his lad James (aka the two bob bits), Jonny B and Matty were rather less than sober from the night before, where Joe Williams had taken a liking to some natural Lilt..
So we gathered our thoughts and kicked off looking everything but a decent side. Not a lot of football was played from either side, with Warwick working hard and stopping out momentum, without passing through the Bishops ranks.
Bishops took the lead, when Ryan's corner was cleared back out and his fine cross was met by Cooper who headed home from close range to open the scoring.
Warwick levelled after they themselves had forced a corner, which was then half cleared and was then scuffed over Rob in goal who could do nothing about it.
From here until half time, not a lot happened with a bit of energy fromm Warwick interspersed with the occasional Bishops breakaway being the only real passages of note.
Half time came and went with everyone dying for a drink after Nath was at home with the team bottles. Turt's single bottle of water didnt quite stretch to feeding the 5000 but it helped.
Second half was very similar, with not a massive amount of football played from Bishops and generally everything felt flat. Subs were made to try and create a winner but Warwick were continuing to threat on the break with Bishops pushing bodies forward. It was left until the last minute, but a long throw caused havoc in the box, and Joel turned and had a strike at goal. A deflection helped it into the roof of the net, to open his account for the season and to seal 3 points for Bishops.
An improvement all round is needed next week but as this is being written, an injury and unavailability list is alarmingly low!
