Bishops Stortford 10 - Old Albanians 15

13th November 2011

The good did out weigh the bad and the ugly - thankfully - in a game that had it all apart from the vital win for the Stortford boys! The lion's share of the possession was had by the Silver Leys lads all game, the only expansive rugby was played by Stortford all game. Our defence was ceaseless and at time incredible as OA's repeatedly thumped and crashed up the middle of the pitch.

A handling error in midfield gifted an early 7 points to the visitors, but Stortford took it straight back to them. The phases and recycling of possession was training ground precision and this led to a try for wingman Brad Chew to finish under pressure in the corner. A penalty 3 points took OA into the second half with a 5 point advantage.

The boys in blue hit back immediately to level the scores with the try of the season. Stewart broke clear and off-loaded to skipper Madsen who smashed his way over the 22. He cut inside the defence and heard the call from the omnipresent openside Goode. The pass from Madsen to Goode was the perfect reverse as Goode cut behind his skipper. Goode blasted away from the cover to score in the corner. Truly great rugby!

All square with 15 minutes to go. 10 played 10.

Sadly for the home team OAs were rewarded for their they only sustained period of pressure as the Stortford defence finally cracked. The OAs 15 out paced the cover to score in the corner after a ranging run from the ex-county player. It was their only backs move of the game!

Final Score 10-15

The ugly was the outburst of 'handbag' throwing from both teams. So unnesseccary but not unusual for this fixture. 4 of the yellows and 1 of the red cards were the result.

The bad was the injuries sustained to Calum Dochety and the OA No8. Both looked extremely serious but I am happy and relieved to report that neither injury has reulted in broken ankles only ligament damage to both players.
