U16 - 22 v Teddington - 24
The shadow of relegation loomed over the bottom of the table clash at Jobbers Wood. The result confirms that both teams will meet again next season in the Div2 as the U16s miss out on the bonus point victory required for survival
A stunning opening try by paceman Charlie Stewart after Adam Brownlees realeased Jack Baker who effortlessly glided into Teddington's half and fed Stewart to out pace the cover from 30 yards out. A great start that was uncharacteristically blown by poor defence and indiscipline. Teddington responded with a converted try after poor play at the ruck as the Blues forwards went off their feet.
The response was for the Blues Pack to organise and play some of their most cohesive rugby of the season. Harry Jones was his usual direct force and he coupled with the size and pace of Jack Fellows-Prynne and Finn O'Malley the former was able to score the first of his two trys of the game. The midfield defence from the U16s was not its usual frugal self as the visitors were able to break free of the initial challenges and take advantage of the spaces behind to score another converted try.
10 - 14 at the half
Teddington scored twice in the 2nd period both unconverted. The mission was to collect the bonus point with 4 trys that job was done with scores from Fellows-Prynne again and of course Harry Jones ! The 2 extras fell agonisingly short from the boot of Hatcher out wide and into the stiff breeze. The fractuos last 10minutes took an age to play with numerous injuries to both sides. The team attacked once again through the forwards - cajouled on by the badgering halfback Tinney - phases and phases of possession making yards of territory but the Teddington defences remained intact and our desparation led to indiscipline at the ruck which all too aften set us back.
Time ran out on the U16s, just short of what was required to win on the day. Perhaps the story of our season encapsulated in one match.
Relegation is confirmed... but we are still in the Cup! Come on lads - one last effort!
