National U17s Competitions 2012 – Magnificent Double for BSRFC Squad

Further proof that BSRFC youth rugby continues to grow in strength comes with the news that the U17s have both A & B teams through to the 4 National competitions starting in March.

The B team have achieved the unprecedented feat of qualifying as the 4th best team in Hertfordshire. This means that they will play in the Shield competition, where they have been drawn against a team from Essex. The A team can feel slightly aggrieved that, based solely on current league position, the Cup entry goes to OAs whom they beat easily in winning the League and cup double last season - but this is more than compensated for by the news that the whole squad will be involved in such a prestigious tournament. Anyone who saw Saturday's Daily Telegraph will have seen that Harpenden won this 3 years ago with a certain Owen Farrell in their side! This is a feat that has not been equalled anywhere in the country in the history of the competition and all of the players should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved over the last 5 years of Youth rugby. To the many individual and team honours they can surely now add the ultimate recognition of being the strongest club squad in the country!

The first stage is a London & South East Division section, with finals played at the Cambridge University Ground on April 1st. Divisional winners then play head to head nationally, with finals day at Northampton Saints in early May.

We wish the whole U17 squad every success in their respective competitions.
