Going into their 5th game of the season the Bishops Stortford Ladies were hungry for another win after their success in their previous 3 away games. After the 2 hour journey the team were ready to face Towcester and A tough game awaited the 16 available players.
Conditions were less than desirable with a muddy pitch, the famous white Stortford shorts soon turned brown as the first tackle was made. The experienced Towscester team dominated all throughout the first half as they broke through our well structured defensive line. Despite Towcesters ever growing scoreline the Ladies didn’t go down easy. Player of the match Carleigh LaLonge produced good carries into the aggressive Towcester line, along with some big tackles by our forwards Victoria Richards, Nikky Wilkins and Rebecca Hall. New to the position at flyhalf,, Jemma Goddard handled the ball well and shipped it out to the backs more than enough times to give the ladies a score on the board but the muddy conditions made handling less than easy for both teams. Towards the end of the second half spectators were using their fingers and toes to count the amount of scrums which would have our scrum pack exhausted. BS Ladies showed the home team their capabilities more with a much improved second half and Towcester were struggling to punch through the middle of our defense but unfortunately their speed and agility beat us on the sidelines more times than one.
An exhausted captain Nikky Wilkins described to game to fast paced and aggressive. A full time score revealed 69-0 loss for BS Ladies.
The Ladies have got a week to recover from one of their biggest games before they take on Deeping Devils at home next Sunday.
