This week sees Redruth making the long trek from Cornwall. Not previously known for traveling well, the Cornishmen have improved dramatically in this respect this season and currently sit fourth in the league. Wins at home to Clifton and at Canterbury in their last two outings indicate a tough match ahead and match reports suggest that scrumhalf, Jack Oulton is a real danger man. He is likely to be partnered at halfback by Joe Elderkin, who is still at Redruth School and a member of Exeter Chief's Academy. He appears to have acquitted himself well in his two games to date but, hopefully he'll be under greater pressure this week! Another man to look out for in the backs is Joel Matavesi, another local product, who returned to Redruth just in time to play in Stortford's match down there in November and is moving to Newcastle Falcons next season. It's true to say that we were not at our best in typically wet conditions in that match, when we were without both Sean Edwards and Sam Winter. Longy's squad will doubtless be looking forward to showing how much better they can play - and, hopefully in significantly more pleasant meteorological conditions!
Turns out that Elderkin, for some reason is not making the trip, so Redruth are moving Joel Matavesi from centre to 10, with Sam Parsons moving from the bench last week to outside centre. Matavesi is a physical player, with a strong boot, which might suggest something about the visitors' game plan.
