Holders Swifts Sundays retain Premier Cup

BS Swifts 2 Stortford Cobras 1

Holders Bishops Stortford Swifts defeated Stortford Cobras 2-1 at Woodside Pk on Friday night, in the Terry Reed Premier Cup Final. Swifts started the game well and were on top in the early stages, with their wide players causing Cobras problems. On 12 minutes James Crane cut in from the right wing and fired home a left foot shot into the Cobras net from 20yds. Swifts were in control at this stage and 8 minutes later, Jamie Bull's right foot shot from the edge of the box gave them a 2-0 lead. Man of the Match Alex Head, appeared to be everywhere on the pitch breaking up Cobras play in midfield. Swifts nearly increased their lead when Turners strike from 20 yds was turned round the post by Fernandes in the Cobras goal. The 2nd half saw Cobras improve, but with few clear cut chances at either end and Swifts having to make 2 changes due to injuries. On 82 minutes a bad head injury to Myhill, saw the blood covered full back have to leave the field. Cobras were thrown a lifeline in the 6th minute of added time when Doolans looping header eluded Newell in the Swifts goal. Too little to late for Cobras as Swifts retained the Premier Cup.
