With several players stuck in traffic, it was a very young Swifts side that started this Herts Intermediate Cup last 16 game. With the game even in the early stages, Swifts gradually got on top and looked the likelier to score, despite the bobbly pitch making it difficult for both sides to get many passing moves flowing. The deadlock was eventually broken on 39 minutes when a fine solo run across the edge of the 18 yd box saw Swifts Captain Ross Bristow find the net with a powerful right footed shot. Standon responded 3 minutes later with Swifts defending poorly to even things up 2 minutes from the break.
The second half saw Swifts in the ascendency as their quicker and crisper passing football eventually took hold and substitute Nesta Qorda made it 2-1 with a fine right foot effort form the left hand side of the 18 yd box. Swifts were now dominant and a fine solo run by John Nevin, saw him upended in the box and a penalty given. Nevin despatched the spot kick confidently. Three minutes later saw the goal of the match when substitute Riccardo Montebello turned and fired home from 20yds for his 4th in 3 games. Swifts saw the game out comfortably, with Montebello having another disallowed for offside. Swifst now meet St Margaretsbury at home in the ¼ finals on the 21st January.
