Swifts win away at Champions Springfield

Match Report Olympian Premier League Springfield v Bishops Stortford Swifts
Date 13/01/2018
Swifts went into today’s league game against Springfield on the back of a hard fought draw against Kelvedon.
Again Manager Craig Glashan made changes to his team due to unavailability in came Charlie Pollard and Deyonte Anthony to the side in place of the injured Jervelle Hamilton and Abraham Adejokun who dropped to the bench.
Swifts made a very slow start to the game today and allowed the hosts to take a soft lead on around the ten minute mark with poor defending allowing a free shot on and around the penalty spot.
Swifts response was good with Mark Nougher equalizing within minutes receiving a through ball from Joe Mcevoy on the right hand side of the penalty box nutmegging the centre half and unleashing a drive into the bottom right hand corner , swifts then had an excellent chance to take the lead on around the 25 minute mark when Gavin Cockman latched onto a defensive mistake only to see his lobbed effort go narrowly over the bar , swifts did take the lead just before the interval when a sumptuous through ball from Joe Mcevoy put Gavin Cockman through on goal , he had the strength to hold off the attempts of the defender to bring him down before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into an empty net , swifts deservedly went into the interval leading 2-1 .
The second half started very cagey with a lot of possession being won and lost in the middle of the park and both defences being on top , Swifts made a change on around the hour mark with Ciaran Kelly replacing the hard working Deyonte Anthony and two more changes on around the seventy minute mark with Daniel Calloway and Akeem Skeen replacing the injured Kevin Mustali and Aaron Courtnell , the game became very stretched with chances missed at both ends and Ciaran Kelly missing an ideal opportunity to make the game safe but his lobbed effort fell the wrong side of the crossbar , Swifts closed out the rest of the game to earn 3 very good points against last year’s league champions.

Fantastic result from our U17 Stars the last team representing the town in the Hertfordshire Football Association U18 County Cup winning 2-0 after extra time at Garston to progress to the last 8. Two fantastic goals from Jasper Bennett in the final period of play secured the victory. Bushey or Ware await Stars in the Quarter Final.
