Sutton beat top of the table
Sutton end Westbury's unbeaten run
Sutton welcomed table toppers Westbury to Lakeview on an autumnal evening for their first home game in over three weeks. The team lined up with Fraser in goal, Downes, Long, Crooks and Roberts in defence, a midfield of Rawlings, Clark, Alexander and the two Keens with Dagger taking the solo role up front. A difficult game was expected due to Westbury’s early dominance in the title race.
The visitors started brightly and Sutton were under pressure from the outset. Westbury had a number of consecutive corners but were unable to capitalise on any of them. Sutton’s first chance fell to Josh Keen after good interplay down the left but unfortunately he was unable to break the deadlock. The half ended even with little between the two sides.
HT Bishop Sutton 0 – 0 Westbury
Sutton came out in the second half looking to take the game to Westbury. The home side took the lead in the 65th minute with a great counter attacking move. Josh Keen and Mason Dagger broke at pace with the latter finding space to run at the defence and drill the ball home. Fraser made a good save to keep Sutton ahead and the home side sealed the victory with ten minutes of normal time remaining. A Downes corner was only cleared by the Westbury defence back out to him whose low drilled cross was met by Dagger at the front post to flick past the Westbury keeper.
