Not the result but the performance
Black Country Rangers 1 v 2 Smethwick
After BCRs abysmal performance away to Bewdley at the weekend they headed into a difficult game against a Smethwick side who are notoriously difficult in mid week with a number of loan players making an appearance.
It was the away side who started brightly with former BCR forward Stuart Hillman firing his early effort just of the post, the home side then settled into the game with new centre back Ben Birch who recently joined from Boldmere St Micheals dictating the play from the back.
BCR had a great chance to go into the lead when Shaquille Mcdonald bundled his way through the Smethwick defence and his low effort was well saved by Smethwicks on loan Stourbridge keeper.
Five minutes later it was Mcdonald who was denied once again when he was found by new signing and former Hinckley striker Jake Healy, Mcdonalds powerful effort was saved brilliantly down low and out for a corner by the Smethwick keeper although the ref over ruled the linesman and gave a goal kick.
The end of the first half petered out as both teams continued to suss each other out.
Half time : BCR 0 Smethwick 0
The second half started in the same way the first ended with not much happening, it only came to life in the 60th minute when a missed through ball was excellently intercepted and played to Hillman who cut in from the left to curl one into the top corner beyond BCR keeper Daniels.
Just four minutes later and it was Hillman once again who latched onto a ball over the top of both Birch and Vaughan and lobbed the on rushing Daniels who should really have stayed on his line.
BCR reacted excellently and continued to move the ball well but failed to penetrate, they put Lewis Archer on for Jake Healy and Melo Coeman for Jamel Fuller.
Dilano Reid also came into the game for Melanius Daniels and looked a constant threat with his excellent delivery.
With ten minutes to play in was Dilano Reid who slid in Archer who smashed the ball into the bottom corner, Smethwick did well to see out the game and broke it up brilliantly.

BCR manager Jones had this to say " Just a week ago we were second in the league and after two quick defeats everyone's confidence has dropped right down but that's part of football. We've made some great signings this week and I'm looking forward to seeing Jake and Shaq when they're fully fit. The lads responded well after our thrashing at the weekend and could of easily rolled over and let the same happen again but they grafted and lost the game with two clinical finishes. We can't let four day be the story of our season we have a very difficult game against Wolverhampton Casuals on Saturday but if the lads graft like the did tonight then I've got no issues with the outcome, we'll continue to keep working hard and I believe in what myself and the backroom staff are trying to achieve here.
