Rangers gear up for yet another local black country 90 minute cup final derby

3 months ago By Mark McIntyre

Rangers looking to avenge October defeat against mid table Smethwick

“These two clubs have already met this season and although Smethwick were bombarded left, right and centre at the Grove, it was former Rangers man Stuart Hillman who did the most damage on the night by scoring two goals to secure a 2-1 victory for Smethwic”

Rangers travel across the borough on Saturday to take on Smethwick with a view of extending their current unbeaten run and most importantly maintain their position at the top of the table.

Smethwick who play at High Ercall Avenue, ground share at Dudley Sports FC which is a stone’s throw from Brierley Hill town centre.

Smethwick are currently 13th in the Premier division, having won just three of their eleven games at their Brierley Hill home this season.

Recent form has been erratic, with just two wins recorded from their last six league games, along with a 0-3 league cup defeat at home against Ellesmere Rangers FC.

Their last league win came at the end of November, away from home when they turned over Wellington (Hereford) 3-1 with goals from Dan Wright, Ben Eberle & Rydhel Ikouara.

However, since then Smethwick have suffered a goal draught and haven’t scored for over 270 minutes in league & league cup competitions.

But statistics mean nothing and it's on the day that counts, and once again Wayne Spicer's men are faced with yet another 90 minute cup final, BUT NEED to be on their guard as Smethwick will be intent on causing a major upset and will take great pleasure in seeing the form book & Rangers unbeaten record being torn to shreds.

These two clubs last met back in October, and although Smethwick were bombarded left, right and centre at the Grove, it was former Rangers man Stuart Hillman who did the most damage on the night by scoring two superb goals to secure a 2-1 victory for Smethwick along with the bragging rights.

Following recent victories against Shifnal 6-1, Casuals 7-2 & Dudley Town 4-0, Rangers take a unchanged 16 man squad to High Ercall as they chase a 12 game unbeaten league & league cup run.

Admission is £5 Adults and £3 Concessions
