Sadly another year of disappointment after losing to TJ in last years final.
Solid Sevenoaks side started the match with more of a bang - something we had hoped to achieve given our depleted backline. The plan was the sting first upfront and try to put them under some pressure to panic.
Not to be as we conceded two quick tries - one rather soft as our tackling was exposed.
Pleasingly though we didnt crumble. We seemed to have learnt to play through adversity and the game swung on its head. For a good while had them stuck in their 22 scoring , once from a quick tap penalty.
Second half we maintained the upper hand but just couldnt breach a very good defence. Finally they broke away and a resulting penalty on our 5 yard line saw the lead extended.
Again we came back and managed one more score as full time blew .
Sevenoaks 19-14 winners in what was a very good game, well supported, played and officiated.
Lessons to learn - composure when we have the opposition where we want them .. too many times we tried to individually take on the opp defence from a tap penalty when a little thought might have taken a scrum (which went very well) or spun the ball out.
We need to trust our outside players even if they arent so familiar. We ended up playing with far too little width which I guess was understandable given the changes in the backs and the lack of familiarity.
excellent work by the forwards throughout the game and delighted at the rucking and loose play.
Superb effort from all the B squad boys who stepped in to plug the gaps - Particularly the forwards where you would never have known. The backs it was more obvious - perhaps understandably.
Congrats to Sevenoaks
Well played our boys
