THE CLUB
Blackley Cricket Club was established in 1869, the same year the Suez Canal was opened and played their first match in a field at the top of South Lane against Elland under the name of Blackley United! From 1881 Blackley played cricket in the West Vale League up until 1893 when they joined the Halifax Amateur Cricket League.
1901 saw the Club move "over the road' to it's present day ground, where it remained in the Halifax A.C.A League until 1920 before joining the Huddersfield Associated Cricket League. Blackley finally joined the Halifax league in 1954, where they remain to this day.
The Club is affiliated to the Yorkshire Cricket Association, (YCA) and the England & Wales Cricket Board, (ECB).
On the playing side the club runs 3 senior team, (all in their respective top sections) and 4 junior teams, possibly 5 this season with U9 cricket becoming more popular. Blackley Ladies have also been known to swap their aprons for cricket whites in the past and will hopefully take part in a Ladies Cricket League organised for the 2010 season.

ECB CLUBMARK
In 2005 Blackley became the first club in the Towergate Halifax Cricket League, and only the twentieth in Yorkshire to gain "Club Mark' status. ECB Club Mark has been developed by ECB and Sport England to set down criteria a club must work through that will enable them to gain accreditation.

Successful accreditation identifies a club as one that takes the welfare of its junior members seriously and wants to provide a junior section that is well organised and is committed to being a safe, effective and child friendly club. This accreditation has to be renewed every three years. Blackley's accreditation was renewed in 2008.

FOCUS CLUB
Across the 39 County Cricket Boards in England and Wales there are only 1,400 Focus Clubs. These Focus Clubs are individually selected by County Boards. Within Yorkshire there are 73 Focus Clubs, one of which is Blackley.

A Focus Club is in essence a cricket club working in partnership with schools, local community groups and businesses to deliver high quality agreed outcomes in partnership with the ECB and the County Cricket Board (YCB).
