Bolton crowned champions, while Aspull hold firm on second promotion spot

There was a full set of fixtures in Division 5N this weekend, with only Fleetwood 3s not scheduled for action.

Starting at the top and Bolton 3s were confirmed as league champions without touching a ball as Preston Grasshoppers 6th were unable to travel. Congratulations to Liam and his superb side, few could argue that you have deserved your success and we look forward to welcoming you on Saturday.

In the race for the second promotion spot, we did out bit and Aspull did theirs with another fine win, this time over fourth placed Garstang, 43-12. Anything other than a win for ourselves this weekend will confirm Aspull as the second promoted side.

The other game this weekend pitted Preston Grasshoppers 5ths against bottom side Colne & Nelson 2s with the spoils taken by the hoppers.

What do these results mean for the league?

As stated, this weekend’s game vs Bolton 3s is a must win for Pool if they are to continue to challenge for a top two promotion spot and even then it is merely to keep hopes alive. Aspull are not in action this coming weekend but then have two visits to Preston Grasshoppers knowing that a win in either will secure their promotion.

Blackpool will finish in third spot this season, which could still keep them in contention to move up when the league organisers look at drop outs from teams above and restructuring but all in all this represents massive progress and something for the club to be proud of considering we finished rock bottom last season with just one win to our names.

Upcoming Fixtures?

There is no doubt that the match of the weekend is Blackpool vs Bolton 3s at Fleetwood Road. In two fiercely contested games so far this season, Bolton have emerged deserved winners so for Blackpool, this represents one last chance at getting a win on the board against a very good side.
Elsewhere, Colne & Nelson 2s host Kirkby Lonsdale 3s and Preston Grasshoppers 5s make the short trip to Garstang, with both games representing double points to cover postponed fixtures earlier in the season. In the other game of the day, Preston Grasshoppers 6ths will entertain Fleetwood 3s.
