Much like the sun, Pool fail to shine in poor season opener.
Blackpool were made to suffer by their local rivals from Fleetwood in what was a terrible day both for rugby and the weather. Amid torrential downpour Blackpool's optimism was washed away as a better drilled and fitter Fleetwood side ran rampant at Mossom Lane.
The first half could only be described dreadful. With Pool going into the game missing the likes of Leon Mason and Andy O'Brien they were unable to get hold of the ball. Fitness levels told as well as Fleetwood consistently beat Pool to the rucks.
The second half saw improvements from the home side but by then their opponents had got into stride and still continued to find gaps in Pools defence.
This was a harsh lesson for Blackpool who will have to improve if they are going to make a fight of it this season. Positives to come out of the game were the performances of Michael McDaid, Dean Bailey and Kev Porter. Next week pool travel to Millom to renew old rivalries from last season and look to kick start their season.
