Blackpool run a riot
One way traffic and it all came from Blackpool.
It was saturday the 15th of october 2011 when Blackpool RUFC ended their losing streak, after Mike Routiff the coach was not in the best of moods after seeing Wales get knocked out of the world cup, Blackpool was determined to turn the tears into happiness.
It was a sunny afternoon and both teams up for the win Blackpool came out of the blocks fireing in all departments of the pitch. With well worked Scrums and Line outs it wasent long until dangerous Mick went over the line to give Blackpool the lead. Looking from a sideline view you couldnt help but think that Blackpool would of been beaten in the scrums with the weight of the pack for Kirkby however Blackpool being Blackpool it wasent long until Kirkby felt the determination, scrum after scrum Blackpool kept pushing them back and proving to the opposition they werent going to be a walk over.
The only problem Blackpool had in the first half was converting the trys but I am sure Mick will only blame the sun being in his eyes. The score being at 5-0 Mick wasent happy with missing the conversion and it wasent long when he found the try line again to take the score to 12-0 after successfully converting. Then it was time for Blackpool to start experimenting and shipping the ball out to the backs Craig Marsdon found the try line making it 2 trys in two weeks and Mick successfully converted to take the score to 19-0. It then only took Blackpool the whole of 5min and Mick went over the line after some great supportive play to seal a hat-trick and a successfull conversion taking the score at half time to 26-0.
Blackpool feeling their first win and feeling maybe a white wash on the cards it wasent long for Mike Routiff to bring the team back down to earth and giving us some good words to go into the 2nd half with. Blackpool started the 2nd half exactly how they finished the 1st half and kept the game going with one way traffic. With Blackpool piling the preasure on, Kirkby had seemed to strenthen up in the defensive line and Blackpool took the kick at a goal which was successfully taken by Mick to take the score to 29-0.
When Kirkby thought nothing else could get any worse their fustration showed and from the re start their number 3 got an instant red for a dangerous tackle and then the flood gates opened for Blackpool and the backs. With some hard running from AJ it wasent long for him to find the try line and with a successful conversion from Kane Hadgraft to take the score to 34-0.
On came Peter Ward and Mavis and most people will say this was one of Peter Wards best game with some out standing running and parming off the opposition he marched on to assist AJ with a further try to take the score to 39-0 and Kane Hadgraft to make the score 44-0. Russ then came off to give Ash Portasman a run out and made some great runs and made some great defensive tackles. Dangerous Mick just couldnt keep away from the ball and went over the line to make it 4 trys in one game with no conversion this then took the score to 49-0. Tom Sanderson was the one to finish this exciting afternoon and went over to finish the score at Blackpool 54 Kirkby Lonsdale 0.
An outstanding result for Blackpool and they will be hoping they can carry this on next week where they find themselves on the road to Rossendale.
Man of the match went to Kane Hadgraft for some great defensive tackles and Dick of the week went to Dangerous Mick.
