Lucas joined Blackpool at the young age of 10, coming through the youth section. In these junior years he was lucky enough to qualify to represent his county and later Northern Region whilst playing at Blackpool at junior level. Whilst attending College he also represented North England Colleges with several other local rugby players attending Blackpool Sixth Form College. Whilst at College that same side went on to win the National Colleges Championships.
At the age of 17, Lucas left the game due to multiple injuries including a nasty broken shoulder which failed to heal correctly.
On his return to the game a year later he rejoined his hometown club Blackpool primarily playing in his favoured position in the back row. Lucas’ creative qualities were quickly noticed and he was moved out into the centres for the 2012/13 season, forming a formidable partnership with Fly-half Kurt Gledhill.
Unfortunately at the end of the following season Lucas left Blackpool RUFC to join Thornton-Cleveleys RUFC. This move was short lived however, as after around 18 months in the Thornton setup, Lucas heard of the return of Chris Parlour as Club Captain at Blackpool RUFC, who Lucas had earlier watched play as a young boy and also had enjoyed playing a few matches with him before his departure, this was enough to sway Lucas back into the Blackpool setup, this time after a few too many pints of the Amber Nectar over the years meant he rolled into the front row where he has remained since.
