Ryton RFC U10’s v Blaydon RFC U10’s

After the cancelled game with Barnard Castle we had the great fortune to, at the last moment, rearrange a match against Ryton U10’s. A big thank you goes out to Phil, his other coach’s and players for the warm welcome we received. As we both had good sized squads we were able to play two match’s ensuring everyone had some good experience on the pitch.

Match 1

Blaydon one the start and started slowly allowing the Ryton players to put pressure on us, this pressure eventually told and we lost possession of the ball. They then took full advantage recycling the ball at every opportunity and creating and overlap and breaking through for the first try of the match. If anything this kicked the played players into action and we immediately put pressure on their players. The balance of the game was very even with two equally match forward packs and the ball passed possession a couple of times before Blaydon were able to secure quality ball from the ruck a quick couple of passes sent Lewis H clean through and he powered over for the first try to Blaydon. The Blaydon players made a couple of changes due to small injuries bringing on Tom A and Aaron and Tom A scored the second try for Blaydon within minutes of coming onto the pitch. Ryton restarted the match and Blaydon swarmed all over there players forcing them into making rash passes to retain possession. With the pressure applied we were able to force them back to just in front of their try line where Tom A ripped the ball of their player and thundered over for the second try. By now the support from the parents of Blaydon U10’s was ecstatic which spurred the players to keep the pressure on Ryton. This created more confusion in the players of Ryton and we secured the ball again through superb forward play clearing out the ball from their possession and creating quality ball for the backs. The ball was passed out to Tom S who thundered through their players, great support play created quality 2nd phase ball and the ball was released to Jak T who sped through the space created by the 2nd phase ball created to score.

HALF TIME: Ryton RFC 5 v Blaydon RFC 15

We changed around the players for the second half giving our other forwards the chance to show what they could do, and we were not disappointed. With a an example and master class of the art of talking from Lewis H we piled on the pressure and won turnover ball on a regular basis and drove their defensive line back with the direct running and determination. Again we secured quality ball from our ruck play and passed the ball out to Tom A he drove straight through the centre of the Ryton defence betting three players with his jinking run to dive over for his third try of the day. Credit should be given to Ryton as their heads never dropped and they continued to show impressive skill of releasing the ball in contact and this paid of with their number 8 bursting though our defence on the back of a superb pass in contact that created the space for him. Blaydon restarted the game and immediately went on the offence the forwards crashing through the Ryton pack and creating good ball for the backs to us. The Ryton players were sucked into the contact area and our back who are understanding the need to kept their positioning and as a result when the ball broke we had back in space and Tom A with lightning speed drove through to score his third try of game and Blaydon’s fifth. There was still time for Ryton to score a further try from great forward play creating 2nd phase play were there best forward was released with yards to go to our try line and crashed over for a consolation try.

MATCH 2

Blaydon after the break between games came out and started were they had left off putting great pressure on the Ryton pack and forcing them into mistakes. We then turned over the ball the ball was quickly passed out to Jak Tuck who drove over for the first try of the game. The game restarted with both teams putting on good pressure and getting the ball out wide at every opportunity. Eventually the Blaydon forward pack drove the Ryton pack back and won the ball again, passing the ball out wide Tom S drove through their defence and released Jak how was denied by a desperate tackle a meter from Ryton’s tryline. From the resultant lineout Ryton one the ball but through emense pressure from the Blaydon players Tom S and James H stripped the ball from the Ryton player in the try area and touched down together for the second try, a true team effort. Ryton then came back at Blaydon after the restart again showing great passing skills in the contact area and released there quickest player who broke free and touched down for a try. There was still time for one final try of the half with superb defensive work from Lewis H spoiling the ball in the ruck we stripped the ball drove through the Ryton pack produced quality 2nd phase ball, passed the ball through the back and released Tom A to score his forth try.

The second half started as the first half finished with an even contest with both teams superbly committed to playing the game in the correct manner. Superb work from the forwards, who had worked superbly as a team all day, again broke the Ryton hold on the ball and produced quality ball for the backs to use. This released Lewis H who ran nearly the length of the pitch to touch down for the fourth try of the game. This was quickly followed by our fifth try of the match a sole effort from Tom A who jinked his way through the Ryton defence to touch down for a try.
