I resolve to be nicer to referees even when they appear to be incompetatnt.
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see Blofield win away!!!
After a fairly even 1st half The Beavers stepped up the pace in the 2nd half to run out worthy winners. Particular mention should be made of Ian Basey-Fisher who worked really hard, Duncan who performed extreemley well and sub Joe Manning who I thought was quite superb. With a bit of luck we would have beaten Beccles by a much greater score. One cause of concern to both me and my fellow Beaverites is the number of times where we tend to "ponce around" at the back playing across the danger area, playing it back to Ryan (who incidentallyt I thought also played well) rather than playing it out quickly and using the width of the pitch, I have been following Blofield for about 5 years now and I can't remember the "poncing about" being so evident during previous seasons!! When we played the ball out quickly we put Beccles on the back foot and looked like causing them problems...perhaps we could consider doing that more often...it may not look so pretty but I'm sure it would be more effective. Anyway, well done to the players lets look forward to taking another 3 points next weekend. Happy New Year to all our readers. B.T.
The technical term for 'poncing around' is playing football! We had a team talk BEFORE the game today about positive thinking and moving forward quickly, as we have already highlighted that we (at times) can think about moving the ball backwards before forwards. There are however times that the ball has to played across the back to move the other team about so that we begin another attack.. We are fortunate to have 4 players in defence who are confident on the ball and have the ability to play football! The long 'rushed' pass out of defence does not work for us! We are a footballing side who like to keep the ball and move the other team around to create gaps!! As managment we have already picked up on the point of thinking forwards before backwards and all the players know and understand what we want! As I said earlier all the players did exactly what we wanted today and played good football in all positions including at the back.. I personally would never discourage playing the ball at the back as long as it is done with positive thinking! Eg trying to find another gap to move forward into!
In response to your comment I and many of your supporters / followers become frustrated when we "play football across the back" and CONCERNED because on several occasions it has backfired and put us under pressure. I would take your point that we have players of quality however SOME of the pitches we use are not designed to play""pretty" football on!! There are many occasions when a swift "clip" down the wing would be more beneficial for Danny Mac or Winesy to run on to..you may think thats "not" playing football but sometimes it can be very effective and certainly exciting to watch!! Afterall Darren, you the team and ALL the people who follow Blofield United want the club to progress and go forward to win games and return The Sterry Cup to Old Yarmouth Road. B.T.
Very well done on a great win today Darren & all the lads. The team started in confident fashion today knocking the ball about well at the back, in midfield and up front., which was great to see, whereas Beccles looked short on confidence from the off, playing on the break with no real pace up front. The team has played some very fine football this season, eg. Mattishall away, Cromer at home. Keep it up Darren, choo choo!
once again we the team take all comments onboard and rally do appreciate the support from the beavers faithful, but in response to your comment of and i quote ''we play football across the back"...the game is called football and all we are doing is waiting and trying to create the space for the thro balls you are talking about, we are not a team who jst hoof the ball up to the forward and inspect them to get on the end of it, chris ben myself and colin are not the best headers and like the ball to feet and down the channels and once again i think we did this very well on saturday. After a bad November the team have bounced back to form and started looking solid at the back and very good in middle and up top. What BUFC have won over the years has come from playing quick confident football and as a player i would think this is what the fans want to see? again tho a BIG thank you for your continued support...UTB
I think the technical term is called ‘possession football’ with the emphasis on ‘pass and move’.
Question: Is it better to try and attempt to hold onto the ball for as long as possible and choosing the easiest pass? (hence the many times you see defenders passing the ball along the defensive line or even backkwards). Or maybe develop a different style of play such as long/direct football; counter attacking or wide play with alternating wing play?
By keeping hold of the ball, the opponent’s frustration will hopefully draw out certain players from their starting positions, making spaces for killer through-balls which would otherwise be impossible. In addition by keeping possession, you encourage the opponent to chase all over the pitch, impacting their stamina and further allowing you to control the pace of the match.
I can see the benefit of a ‘quick clip’ down the wing as this turns the opponent team’s defence around, turning defence into attack, I am sure defenders would agree they hate facing their own goal, but players sometimes have seconds to make a decision and opportunities get lost, hence if possession is kept then the opportunity will present its self again to move the ball quickly. We may have been guilty of over playing at times, but possession football is a style which suits and I particularly like. It’s worth noting that every opponent will not allow this as it depends on the opposing teams style, I am sure there will be times when other tactics have to be considered such as those mentioned or even all of the above.
I agree with Mac regarding November, think it was down to those ridiculous ‘moustaches’ and our recent form of late has improved. I must thank you Brian and all supporters, your frustrations are noted, I for one really appreciate your continued support. As players and mangers our aspirations are identical and yes I really want the Sterry Cup but it’s a tough league this year with many teams performing well. Guess it all depends on who has the hunger, desire and want it the most!
