Club records tumble at Yarm

Andy Barker's 6 tries against Yarm sets a club record.

Congratulations to Andy Barker who set a 1st XV record for most tries scored in a league match.
Having already been in prolific form so far this season scoring 16 tries, he managed an incredible 6 tries against Yarm to take his tally to 22.

This result also smashes the previous home/away total beating the 2005 - 2006 season's 185 - 5 against Hartlepool Athletic, remarkably the away result being a mere 8-5 win but the home result a record 177-0, incorrectly recorded at 170-0 because the referee ran out of space on his notebook page & missing a try & conversion recorded on the reverse of the page!

Andy Sutherland also scored an impressive 39 points against Yarm with 3 tries and 12 conversions but this falls way short of the individual points record in a match held by fly-half Gregg Dawson with 65 points in the aforementioned match against Hartlepool Athletic. In doing so he managed to achieve a 'Grand Slam' by scoring in each of the four possible ways. His points were made up of 3 tries; 22 conversions; 1 penalty and 1 drop goal.

Blyth 1st XV are averaging a massive 47 points per match & conceding a miserly 14 with a huge points difference of 522, much higher than any other team in the league & are on course to score 1000 points in the league for the first time since the leagues were formed.

The record for the most points scored by a team over a season is 1044, a long standing record, having been notched up in the 1971 - 72 season by the 1st XV, before the formation of the leagues.
Whilst the 1st XV of 71-72 played significantly more matches, 37 at an average of 29 points, it is worth noting that this tally was achieved at a time when a try counted only 4 points.
