Boca win on penalty kicks

Boca beat Esarn this afternoon in a penalty shoot out after Hamish scored his first ever goal for the BMP based team.

Boca playing a 4 - 5 - 1 formation struggled to begin with to cope with the speed of the Esarn City team. Fabian in particular and Scotty on a couple of occasions were called upon to make timely interventions which kept Boca in the game. Ahmed Zaoui arrived late but his introduction turned the game for Boca, suddenly there was someone who could put his foot on the ball and set the play up. He put Guillermo through several times but the Chilean striker wasn't able to convert. Then late in the half a Guillermo corner was flicked on by Ahmed and Hamish was on hand to divert the ball into the net. Congratulations to Hamish on his goal - been a long time coming.

The second half saw Boca defending deep and on the whole coping. There was always someone on hand to pull off the desperate tackle or save until the ref rather harshly judged Kev Wong-Toi to have handled in the box and the Esarn playmaker converted the spot kick. The game continued with Boca's desperate defence and the occasional counter offensive. But at full time the score was tied 1-1.

The ref had informed us that there would be no extra time and that we would go straight into a penalty shoot out.

Esarn were first up and the player tucked the ball away nicely.
Philip stepped up for Boca and slotted it.
The Esarn playmaker who had scored from the spot in the game stepped up but Scotty anticipated his shot and blocked it.
Guillermo was next up and hit his shot to the keeper's right to put Boca ahead.
The next Esarn penalty was knocked wide of the post.
Ahmed stepped up and finished nicely inside the keeper's right hand post. 3-1 to Boca and an Esarn miss next would see the game go to Boca.
The Esarn player stepped up but again Scotty anticipated the kick and palmed the all away to give Boca the win and the semi final berth.
