After 3 wins the Juniors were brought back down to Earth after being outfought by a strong Bohs team.
The key thing in the pre-match team talk was that we wanted to start quickly and well, something we haven’t really done since the first week. Unfortunately that did not happen, and Bohs came out firing. We were on the back foot straight away and under pressure. Despite a reputation as a long ball team it has to be said Bohs played some good stuff, but balls over the top were still a key part of their game. And we didn’t cope with it brilliantly, passes were going astray, and we couldn’t seem to get any real spell of possession. As was so often the case last season, defending set pieces proved to be our downfall. A corner came in, it wasn’t cleared properly, 1-0 Bohs. Not long after the same again, we didn’t challenge, didn’t clear our lines and were punished, 2-0. We were not out of the game though, although we didn’t have a lot of possession we felt at 2-0 we were still in the game, and if we could re-group at half time it was game on. Alas, it wasn’t to be, another corner not dealt with and it was 3-0. That’s how it stayed until half time, not a good half round, we worked hard, huffed and puffed, but lacked any quality or purpose, matters were not helped by Dickie and Rob L being forced off with knocks.
The second half didn’t start much better it has to be said, again we were working hard, dealing much better with Bohs attacks, but still were struggling to create any real chances. That is not saying the attack and midfield weren’t working hard, things just weren’t quite coming off for us. We did have a bit more of the ball this half, and looked a bit better, and we eventually got some reward, a corner of our own was sent in, bobbled around, fell to Russ who drove it home. At this point we really felt it was game on, and with 20+ minutes to go we felt we had a chance. However same again, another Bohs corner not dealt with and a 4th goal conceded. We continued to work hard but the game was up and it ended 4-1.
Although the game didn’t go our way, nobody left anything out there, we grinded right to the last whistle but just lacked something today, we didn’t pass well, the defence and the attack were too far apart, and a slow start was what ultimately cost us. Man of the Match was Craig, who fought the whole game and epitomised the effort we put in, special mention to Jammy who came a close second.
Home game at 10am next week against Beta FC, hopefully we can get back to winning ways.
