The Mikes 4-1 Causeway United

After a slow start, The Mikes came from behind to turn in a powerful second half performance to secure the Midland Football Alliance runners up spot.

The visitors started the brighter but Ross Clarke tested Turner from a 25 yard free kick and Ricky Baker should have scored from the resultant corner, but headed Clarke's well flighted delivery over the bar.

United forced their way ahead midway through the half from a direct free kick that was somewhat harshly awarded against Ben Birch, but there was no doubt about the execution.

It took The Mikes about half an hour to get a grip on the game, but they gradually they began to turn the screw. A slick passing move created a chance for Holmes at the far post, but he couldn't get over his header and it cleared the bar. Edmunds then screwed his shot wide of the far post when handily placed, before the equaliser duly arrived. Another good move saw Maye released in the inside left channel and he delivered a neat chip to the far post, where Lee Osborne buried a header beyond Turner to level things at the break.

After the restart, The Mikes looked much more purposeful as they looked to secure the win required for second spot. Clarke fired a dipping volley inches wide with Turner watching anxiously before Maye rose highest to meet Edmunds deep cross, but his header was easily gathered by Turner.

Manager Grosvenor moved to add weight to the attack as he brought on Jermaine Clarke for defender Chris Neilson, and the change paid dividends as he put The Mikes ahead with his first touch on 66 minutes. With The Mikes pressing high up the pitch, the United back line got themselves in terrible trouble and skied an attempted clearance towards the edge of the box. With most expecting him to contest a header, Clarke anticipated that his marker was struggling, instead bringing the ball down neatly, before twisting and turning to find space to steer the ball into the bottom corner beyond Turner.

Three minutes later it was game set and match as the tireless Holmes timed his run perfectly to flick home a header to open a up a two goal cushion. It was all Boldmere now and Edmunds provided the icing on the cake as he skipped past his marker to drill home a low shot across the keeper for 4-1.

Despite being camped in the United half, there was no further action to trouble the scorers, so all that remained was the presentation. Club Captain Tom Stevenson lifted the trophy to cap a memorable season.

While there will inevitably be a certain sense of 'what might have been', Tividale are worthy champions and The Mikes young squad and management team should be very satisfied with a superb season where they have learned and achieved so much.
