Bold Miners 48 - Oldham St Annes 6
Bold straight back to winning ways after disappointment of first league defeat.
Bold bounced back from their first defeat of the North West Men's League season with a comprehensive victory against the Oldham side. The Bold side with 7 enforced changes from the team beaten by Halton Farnworth Hornets were determined to return to winning ways and dominated the game from the early exchanges throughout most of the 80 minutes.
Despite being faced by a much bigger opposition side the Miners pack laid the foundations for the win and led from the front to give hooker Kelvin Walkden and halfbacks Andy Dobson and Ste Dumphy the opportunity to continually launch attacks. Bold were guilty of some poor discipline to gift the opposition more posession and territory but apart from a solitary try midway through the first half the Miners defence held strong especially when having to defend close to their own line.
Bold tries came through hat tricks from both Kelvin Walkden and the returning Adam Welsby who was impressive in his first game back for a number of weeks, and a try each from Andy Dobson, Paul Johnson and Andy Lynch. Adam Welsby added 4 conversions and Kelvin Walkden with 2.
Captain Paul Johnson was once again the top tackler and he was also selected as Grundy Excavations Man of the Match in an outstanding all round display.
