Bolton 4s made the short trip to Tyldesley to play in the Quarter Final of the North West League Plate.
Buoyed by their 100-nil win the previous week they were brought back to earth by 4 cry-offs on the day of the match. A few phone calls managed to source some alternative players from the sick/lame/weary camp.
A strong start had Bolton probing the Tyldesley defence with good penetrating runs from the backs. But all this served to do was waken the giant Tyldesley pack, who responded with some firm tackling. From one turnover the Tyldesley backs were released and the centre scored under the posts. A further try followed shortly after.
Bolton continued to take their chances but were continually thwarted by crunching tackles. As the half drew to a close, Tyldesley added another 2 tries.
Strong words at half time and once again Bolton started well, but the telling Tyldesley pack forced them backwards. From a clearance in their own 22, a Bolton kick was charged down, and the bounce fell nicely for the charging Tyldesley flanker who ran over the line to score.
That was the only score of the half, as some attritional play from both teams kept most of the play in the centre of the field. A supply of even larger subs ensured that Tyldesley prevented any Bolton comebacks.
