Bookham Clinch 1st Win Of The Season With A Comfortable Win V Sheerwater.

Bookham came into the early bank holiday game against Sheerwater who were on a high from saturdays win versus Worcester Park. On the other hand Bookham were low on confidence needing to kick start there season. The game started scrappy and it took a good 10 minutes for Bookham to take a foot hold in the game with some attacking midfield play which was forcing Sheerwater onto the back foot. In the 19th minute the lively looking Goodman playing just behind the Bookham forward line threaded a ball through to Breslin who finished well to show the form he did pre-season. Bookham were on top and at times although not performing greatly were dominating Sheerwater all over the park. In the 31st Bookham doubled there lead from a well driven corner from Piercy who found Oliver unmarked in the box who in turn took a touch and blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Coming into half time Bookham were disappointed not to be further in front with King heading over unmarked at the back post from a corner. After some encouraging words at half time Bookham came into the 2nd half putting more pressure on the Sheerwater back four. A deep freekick from Goodman was headed down by the Sheerwater centre half into the path of Breslin who struck a low drive into the bottom left to make it 3-0 and give no way back for the opposition. The rest of the game was poor to watch with neither team showing much quality and Neilson and McCabe both getting booked for off the ball incidents. There was time however for Andy Taylor to replace Goodman with 10 minutes to go however it was quite hard to watch. With 2 minutes to go there was a collision on the edge of the box with Duke conceding a penalty and Sheerwater pulled a goal back which was disappointing because we could have got our 1st clean sheet of the season. A positive result with some good individual performances to lift Bookhams spirits after a tough 4 games in 8 days. Bookham now have a couple of weeks rest until they host Westfield in the FA Vase on the 10th september.
