Code of Conduct
Player Charter
Spring 2010
PURPOSE:To outline and communicate the expectations of all players with regard to individual, team, and club responsibilities.
If we intend to fulfill our mission statement “to be recognized both nationally and internationally as the home of rugby in the United States,” we must act in a manner that distinctively and positively identifies a Wolfhound on and off the pitch.
INDIVIDUAL:Voluntarily pay your dues.
Display respect and modesty to all parties associated with the club including other players, coaching staff, the executive committee, opponents, referees, and all fans (supporters and non-supporters of the Wolfhounds).
Exhibit professionalism, discipline, and selflessness (you are a part of something bigger).
Take the opportunity to mentor new players. The tenure of this Club will be linked to the development of relationships with new players and associates.
Understand that any time you wear Wolfhounds attire, you are viewed as a representative of the Club and will act in that manner.
Be honest with yourself and others, and do not make excuses.
Exhibit a positive attitude and carry a winning mentality; confident not arrogant.
Understand that you, the individual, is ultimately responsible and will be held accountable for decisions made when representing the Club.
TEAM:Commit. Always be on time, be prepared mentally and physically, stay focused, and communicate absence or tardiness through the appropriate channels.
Know your role and duty as a player.
Trust the decisions of your teammates and support them. Use constructive criticism to improve one another.
Do not scold a teammate on the field.
Understand that the goals of the team trump the goals of the individual. Operate as a cohesive unit.
While on the pitch, respect the hierarchy – communicate any issues through your Captain, and the Captain or Coach will communicate with the officials.
Live with the decisions of the official.
Sacrifice your mind and body for the crest, for each other.
Exhibit controlled emotions.
Intensity = Work productivity, not reactivity on the pitch.
Be decisive, yet understand that your decisions directly affect your teammates.
Give your all and do not save yourself for later. We have a panel of capable players who can fill the position when necessary.
CLUB:Encourage other Club members to participate and pay dues.
Welcome the opportunity to talk about your Club with interested parties.
Support the Club through participation and attendance at fundraisers, meetings, practices, and matches.
Understand that there are several teams, not just the one you play on.
Represent your Club in a positive fashion. If you are wearing Wolfhounds gear or associating with other Wolfhounds, keep the Club in mind.
Volunteer for tasks at all levels of the organization. Do not assume the daily game tasks of the club will get done by themselves. If you can’t help with the executive responsibilities, then help with field setup, merchandise sales, etc.
We have intentionally left out language related to consequences or punishment. Most issues can be resolved within the ranks of the team, but the Executive and coaching staff will address issues if/when necessary.
