Match report

Winterton Rangers 1 Bottesford Town 1
Bottesford Town will see this game as another 2 points dropped in their quest for promotion monopolizing play for large periods in the game but faltering in the final 3rd of the pitch with winterton Rangers keeper Adam Stevens earning the ‘man of the match’ award.
For the first quarter, Leigh Herrick did not touch the ball such was the dominance of the visitor’s play before Matty Steeper tried his hand at a goal to keep Herrick on his toes. Bottesford’s Tom Wilson saw his effort cleared off the line minutes later followed by Danny Gibbons shooting wide of the target. With Bottesford maintaining possession in mid-field, the outcome of the game neber looked to be in doubt but with Winterton looking to take advantage on the break, a good run from Josh Batty narrowly ended with a shot wide of the target.
The visitors continued to establish their authority on the game and in the 37th minute from a corner, another goal-line clearance kept them at bay followed by a good save from keeper Stevens to deny Terry Barwick in the 40th minute. In the final minute of the first half, Winterton pressed for a corner which was well defended bringing the game to a close at half-time.
Bottesford as is the norm pushed hard from the restart with a shot from Steve Ridley well saved by the keeper and from a quick break up-field, Winterton’s Gary Nimmo got by his marker only to chip the ball over the bar.
Bottesford introduced young Jonjo O’Callaghan into the game in the 60th minute who quickly adapted into the game bringing out a good save from the keeper. In the 66th minute the game was turned on its head when keeper Herrick ‘dithered’ and elected to try and beat a player with the ball rather than a straight forward clearance allowing Nimmo to dispossess him to score into an empty net!!
The visitors responded with some urgency with keeper Stevens pulling out another good save only from the resultant corner, Barwick to strike home the equaliser in the 73rd minute much to the relief of the visiting supporters.
Gary Nimmo proved himself a handful creating another couple of chances for Winterton which came to nothing and home defenders James Coulbeck and Jake Rotherham playing their parts well to keep Bottesford at bay during the final 10 minutes of the game.
Injuries, plus player suspensions make for a difficult month for Bottesford providing the opportunity for the young players to demonstrate their worth.
