Askern Welfare 0 Bottesford Town 2
Bottesford Town thoroughly deserved their win against Askern Welfare in a game that they controlled from the onset denying the home team any real opportunity of a goal.
Bottesford won a corner in the 5th minute which brought out a good save from the home keeper and followed up minutes later with Carl Slack seeing his effort cleared and 2 further attempts blocked on the line.
Slack then became the provider for John Joe McCaffery to run on to but whilst in a good position, his shot went astray of the target.
On 25 minutes, a further opportunity went a begging for the visitors when a shot from Adam Martin was only partly cleared but the resultant header attempt from Slack was wide of the target.
Apart from an occasional counter-attack from the home team, Rob Zand in the visiting goal was never really tested with Carl La Rocca and Daniel Blount competently dealing with anything that the Askern attack had to offer.
In the 40th minute, good play involving Paul Morrill and Scott Wilby provided Carl Snowden with an open goal at his mercy but his effort went wide of the target.
As the game went into the final 5 minutes of the opening half, Bottesford squandered further opportunities with Snowden once again missing the target and Wilby having created his opportunity for a strike at goal dithered when he should have ‘pulled the trigger’.
At the stroke of half-time the goal eventually arrived, a free-kick outside the penalty area found Snowden well positioned to head home a fine goal.
Straight from the restart, Wilby picked up a loose ball and worked his way to the by-line before picking out Morrill whose well hit strike went narrowly wide of the goal.
5 minutes later, it was the turn of Slack to have a shot at goal and at the 2nd attempt he found the back of the net to make it 2 goals to nil.
During the next 30 minutes of the game, Askern introduced their substitutes which enabled periods of attacking play with Mark Vicarage for the home team having a couple of strikes at goal but not finding the target.
Despite further goal attempts for Bottesford from Morrill; Greg Andrews; Snowden & Slack, the score-line remained the same at the final whistle.
