BRFC u13s get revenge for early season defeat
BRFC u13s assembled a strong squad for the final game of the 2016-17 season, a re-match against a powerful Worcester side who had inflicted a painful (in more ways than one) defeat on the lads earlier in the season. The squad has changed beyond all recognition since the start of the season, and we have been delighted to welcome some great new players. With change has come a need to go back to basic skills, and the coaching team were pleased to see a session on rucking being put to good use right from the start. The forwards were much more mobile than in our last game, and hit the ruck with purpose and (more) pace. This resulted in quicker ball to the backs, which they used with great effect. With pacy runners such as Nahum, Joe R, Joe D & Dan in the back line, all that was required was putting them into the space with the ball. Which is exactly what Frosty, Elliott, Sam R and Ollie A did with great regularity, Nahum and Joe R both bagging a brace of tries in the first half.
The second half was much more attritional, and it needed some strong tackling from Haddees, Matthew, Riyaan, Amien, Rahul, Ollie E to put down some quick and strong runners. The scrum performed brilliantly, and the front row players (Jim, Sam E, Amien and Sam P) all worked as a cohesive unit. The forwards were not short of pace and power with the ball, and Riyaan, Karam and Sam E caused their usual mayhem. In the end, BRFC ran out 45-20 winners, to end the season with 11 wins from 17 games. Not bad for a team that hadn't met each other 6 months ago...
The end of season awards followed after the game. Any number of players could have won awards, but the winners were:
Most Improved Player: Jim Cullen
Coaches Player of the Year: Sam Edwards
'Clubman' of the Year: Sam Pentall
Players' Player of the Year: Elliott Williams
