U13s did deep to win 11 try thriller
100% record retained
Sunday saw a hard fought 6-5 victory against a well-drilled Veseyans side whose structured play was a contrast to Bournville's rather more freewheeling attitude to defensive alignment, rucking and, occasionally, tackling. As with the Droitwich game, excellent handling. passing and broken field running saw us home but work will have to be done on the scrum and defending as a unit if the boys want to make games easier for themselves.
Two first half tries by Tom G kept the team in the hunt as they turned around with a 3-2 deficit and great long range tries from Remy (2), the hat-trick try from Tom G and Fintan (5.9 for the landing from all judges save for Mr T Dowling who was heard muttering darkly about things being different in his day) saw the boys claim an excellent win. Again, all the boys contributed to the win in what was quite a physical game and there was some great last-ditch tackling when it really mattered which showed great spirit.
The team's lack of positional discipline may of course have been a reflection of the referee's own free-spirited interpretation of the rules but nobody volunteered to do the job when I asked them so there we are. I didn't even have the opportunity to incorrectly call Kieran back when he's about to score a try which is always my favourite part of refereeing matches.
Team: Ibby, Connor M, Tom D, Rohan, Fintan, Tom I, James D, Connor O, Remy, Tom G, Harry, Kody, Paddy, Shaun and Aadam.
