U10 A Team
Make it 3 out of 3 Wins
Bovey A travelled to face a strong Ipplepen team containing 3 district players but comfortably came away victors. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Tom Mortimore and Dan Webb put on 25 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket with Tom hitting 4 boundaries and Dan resolutely keeping out Ipplepen's fast opening Devon county bowler.
Faced with large boundaries and slower bowling, the next pair of Ollie Curran and Leo Hodges had to work hard by placing the ball but intelligent running added another 13 runs over the next 4 overs.
Jacob Wright and Ben Kay came to the crease next and worked very well as a pair with clear calling and clever running. Jacob pulled a 4 up the hill and then punched two further good shots down the ground as they added another 13 runs to the total.
The final pair of Jack Ansley and Harry Bannister contributed 14 to a final tally of 260 with Ipplepen 141/0 Bovey Tracey 160/0 runs
Harry hitting 2 boundaries to square leg and Jack driving a 3 down the ground.
One area that Bovey showed huge improvement in was the fielding and this was proven with 4 run outs created over the next 5 overs. Ben Kay whipped the ball in to Tom Mortimore for the first, before Tom swooped in from mid-off to outrun the desperate batsman for the second. He repeated the trick the following delivery when the next batsman proved he was equally not a match for Tom's speed, before Leo threw down the stumps for the fourth. This left Ipplepen at 202 after 9 overs and further tight bowling, athletic and aggressive fielding coupled with superb wicket-keeping from Ollie Curran kept the final score to 241.
An indication of just how much Bovey have improved was seen, not just in the fielding, but also in the fact they bowled only 7 wides, compared to the oppositions 18.
A fantastic display of cricket and many thanks to the scorers, umpires, managers and our gracious hosts.
