U10 A Win at Home to Ashburton
U10 A Team Gain Revenge on Ashburton
Bovey A gained revenge for 2 losses last season to Ashburton with a comfortable victory this evening. Bowling first, Bovey opened with 2 maidens and a wicket from Ben Kay bookending a triple wicket over from Jack Ansley leaving their opponents at just 184 after 3. Further tight bowling over the next 9 overs restricted Ashburton to adding just 6 more runs. Dan Webb bowled one batsman and Leo Hodges induced a thick edge from another that wickie Ollie Curran pouched well, low to his right, before Jack Ansley snared his 4th wicket of the evening. Jacob Wright was unlucky not to take a tough catch that came out of the sun before Tom Mortimore finished off the innings pitching a delivery up to bowl the last batsman leaving Ashburton on 197.
Tom and Isaac Helyer opened the batting with some lusty blows both down the ground and into the car park leaving at least one parent wishing they hadn't parked quite so close. The next pair of Ollie and Dan epitomised the much improved running between the wickets that Bovey have shown this season, displaying confidence and selectivity in their calls. Unfortunately, Jack hadn't received the memo in the next pair when he called for a non-existent run leaving partner Leo stranded! However the batsmen made amends with a boundary each (Leo's first ever 4) so when the last pair of Jacob and Ben came to the crease Bovey were comfortably set at 255.
Bovey A have shown marked improvements over the last year. Tighter bowling and enthusiastic fielding coupled with better running and a significantly more unified team spirit have left them deservedly unbeaten after 4 matches.
Thanks as always to the umpires, scorers and managers for their hard work.
