U10 A Team Break 300 for the First Time
U10 A Team
Bovey U10 Break the 300 for the First Time.
Facing a young but very spirited Abbotskerswell team, Bovey A came away with their fifth victory in as many matches.
Bowling first, Ben Kay, Dan Webb and Jack Ansley had Abbotskerswell reeling at 194 after the first 4 overs, with Jack taking 2 wicket maidens. Further wickets to Jacob Wright and Ben Kay left their opponents in an even deeper hole at 192 from 7. Dan Webb then burst into life with a triple wicket over, including the second of three catches for Tom Mortimore, who proved his usual safe pair of hands at short mid wicket. Yet more tight bowling had Abbotskerswell at just 185 from 13 before some determined hitting over the last 3 overs took them to 213.
Opening the innings for Bovey, Jack Ansley and Harry Bannister took the attack to their opponents with a flurry of boundaries before the next pair of Jacob Wright and Ben Kay furthered the score to 257 at the halfway point. Tom Mortimore alongside debutant Ben Vigors then added a further 31 runs over the next 4 overs with several savagely pulled 4s and sharply run singles. In his first game, Ben Vigors proved himself very much equal to the task with his solid batting and sharp fielding.
The last pair of Ollie Curran and Dan Webb took Bovey to their highest ever total of 320 with yet more boundaries to fine leg and some very well judged running, putting pressure on the fielders and turning singles into doubles.
It was another professional display from a vastly improved Bovey team with tight bowling (yet again only 7 wides - half the number of the opposition), athletic fielding and well-judged batting.
This leaves Bovey with a 100% record after 5 games but a tough match looming next week at Shaldon.
Many thanks to our gracious hosts, scorers, umpires, managers and the chef for the delicious "double dogs"!
