A confident Brackley U10 side secured a 4-2 win and put in another team performance. Unfortunately this team performance was generally a poor one with drills learnt a few weeks ago forgotten, which led to a scrappy game (too many Easter eggs?).
Brackley had a great start doing the basics well - Cameron Corbett into contact, ruck, good attacking line with Ben White passing to Franco Fulljames to run to score the first try within 30 seconds.
In possession, Brackley chose to take contact instead of trying to find space with a pass but despite strong rucking by Casuals, usually kept the ball. Ben White made a strong run then momentum slowed. Cameron Corbett ran in to join and drove the ball forward finding 4 legs are better than two and this time was able to gain yards, only to lose the ball forward.
Good counter attack by casuals and missed tackles by Brackley, allow Casuals to score 1–1.
More scrappy play finds George Uzolins at the back of a ruck who picks up the ball and goes to score 2-1. Minutes later George U off loads to Cameron who runs in to score 3-1.
Second half sees more lateral running and a further try from George Uzolins and another try for Casuals in an increasingly scrappy game. 4-2.
Jamie Cockerill ran well with ball in hand but was too often isolated. New boy to the Brackley team Logan had his first ever game and did well, but the best of the game was Ben who controlled the ball well, passing, taking the ball on when no options were there and defending well.
Final Score 4 – 2 to Brackley.
Brackley v Casuals Game 2
15 April 2012
Casuals came out fighting for the second game scoring twice before Izaak Bow, in his first ever game for Brackley, could respond. Scrappy was the word of the day along with lateral which most Brackley players seemed intent on running.
Half time 2-0 to Casuals.
Brackley’s attack in the second half usually came from George Altham and Jamie Cockerill who ran well eating up the yards but failing due to poor awareness. If passes were given, tries would have come.
More lateral play followed and there was even a time when 7 players were in the ruck! Ben White took contact using the only option - pick and go. Izzak Bow came in to take the ball over the try line to score his second try of the day. 3-1
Scrums were under pressure and shaky but Ben was still able to get the ball away to George Uzolins, who scores but is nearly tackled by a local terrier much to his surprise!
Brackley begin to play better holding scrum pressure with Franco Fulljames, Matthew Start, Jamie, Ben and Nathan Dowdell all combining to string passes together or present the ball.
Final Score 4-1 to Casuals.
Brackley v Casuals Game 3
15 April 2012
Game 3 saw game time for Izaak Bow, Logan, William Grantham, Jack Lester and a try for Jamie Cockerill
Brackley began to run forward and better aggression was showed by William and Jack work hard to gain ground but Casuals were on for revenge winning 4-1.
Player of the day – Man of the Match was Ben White
