Rugby Action this weekend at Fine Lady Fields

3 months ago By Nigel Boot Handford

Bedford Queens make are at Fine Lady Fields in the penultimate home league match of the season and its Presidents day!

Club President Jon Pedder will be welcoming back the great and the good from the legion of past players and hosting the clubs sponsors prior to the visit of Bedford Queens.

Queens missed out on promotion last season to Mens Own in a match against Mens Own that they should have won after what was by all other accounts a great season, finalists in the Midlands Junior Vase only losing on the road Buxton the national quarter final and missing promotion by the slenderest of margins. This time round and with only two matches for Queens left in the league as they sit out the final round of matches, promotion is still not assured and Queens need a win to put them into a confirmed promotion slot and remove the pressure from their final match at home to their only promotion rivals Deepings. Deepings will be hoping that Brackley can keep the Green Machines season alive and find the old Brackley magic in front of the club President and his guests and bring back the Bedford jinx which for many seasons saw both Swifts and Queens leave Fine Lady Fields without success.

Some may think the match at Franklins Gardens is the big midlands derby, obviously they have never been to a Brackley v Queens match.

The Brackley v Queens matches have been terrific contests over the years and this one promises to be another. Brackley, who play Sileby next week, even though not in promotion contention themselves can still influence who takes the league championship.

The match kicks off at 15:00hrs

On Sunday (don't forget that the clocks GO FORWARD Saturday night( the juniors are out in force with the U13’s being the main attraction with a match kicking off at 10:30am
