Sunday 5th September -Lesson Plan
Pre-lims
Check pitch, mark out 20mx20m. First aid kit, - check kids kit -no chewing gum, tag up.

Aim
Get the kids back into the game after the long break, move the drills on from the U7, try some new ones. Good tag Rugby is players attack as a team and defend as a team.
1. Getting into space, dodging and pursuing
2. Sending, receiving and travelling with the ball
3. Basic Attack and Defence 2v1 and 5v3
4. Play small 4v4 scale game with coaching
5. Always finish on the game - Play 7v7 a-side games (Ability matched)

Warm-up – Start without the ball (gentle run around the grid) – touch the floor on 1, jump up on 2, reverse on 3, (3-4 mins)- then form square and do relay diagonals with ball to feet and then ball to hand then pass in middle (3-4 mins).

Drill – Find the space (10mins)
Ball passed when PASS called
Players to be at least 2 steps (1m) when STOP called – Check if anyone can touch hands.
Coaching Points
• Ball in two hands
• Look for space
• Dodge
• Change so that it must be 2m or more apart.

Drill – Bump and Run (10mins)
Ball used to tag. 3 or 4 Static Players link arms, 1 Dodger and 1 Ball Carrier. When tagged they becomes the Carrier. Dodger's aim is to get to the 3 safe static players and bump the one off the other end.

10:30 Break 3-4mins - Fluid

Skill-development; Group-up (even number of teams- between 7-10)

Drill – Cascade, Run and pass, (10mins)
Run 2 teams from each side. Maximise activity. First player Standing, next One knee, two knees, sat down, on front, on back. When called all go.
Extra – get starting player to loop to end, then try a miss move!
Coaching Points
• Players must get into position to receive a pass as quickly as possible.
• Ball in 2 hands
• Gentle passes in front of the support player
• Support players call for the ball
• Hands ready

Start with lines close to each other, a little more than a arms width apart and then increase the distance as they get used to it.

Drill – 2v1 (5mins)
Extra – add another defender . Then another attacker for 3v2. One at a time until it becomes next drill. Get attacker to draw the defender(s).
Drill - 5v3 Attack and Defence (15mins)
Build up from above get attackers to draw the defence to create space.
Coaching Points
• Hold the ball in two hands.
• Commit defenders to make space for team mates.
• Run forwards with the ball.
• 5v3 should win every time.
• If 3 keeps scoring, 5’s defence needs adjusting
• If 3 prevent scores, 5's attack needs adjusting
• Swap players between the groups after 3 try's

11:00 Break 3-4mins

Coached Game – 4v4 (10mins)
Use above drills to highlight the drawing of the defence, getting two players to tag you means you have 3 players to pass to and they only have two defenders, who are still active.

Game - 7v7 (or 8v8) (2x10mins)
Adjust teams to even out ability -no ABCD until Sept 26th! 2 Games NO subs
Play the game and Coaches to direct from behind. Focus on straight line push up defence. Attackers drawing defence and creating space.

Finish between 11:30 and 11:45
