After being put in to bat on what looked like a tricky deck at Yeadon, Bingley got off to a steady start with Phil Slater adding 36 of the 42 scored for the 1st wicket, however a flurry of wickets saw them slump form 42-0 to 73-5. Chris Thompson (38) looked to steady the ship but after a couple of useful partnerships he threw his wicket away and it was left to Patrick Dixon (31no) to see Bingley on to a second batting point but the wasting of 2 overs was disappointing for them.
Yeadon’s innings followed a similar path albeit at a slower pace, some tight early bowling restricted the hosts to just 35 from the first 16 overs but the lack of wickets was a concern. The introduction of Ali and Smallwood proved pivotal as they reduced Yeadon to 41-3, and after another partnership they struck again with 3 wickets in 3 overs all with the score on 66. The run rate had increased significantly over this period of bowling and with both the spinners completing their allotted 15 overs with Ali taking 4-25 and Smallwood 3-33. The reintroduction of the seamers yielded 2 more wickets but that final tenth wicket alluded them as Yeadon finished 129-9, giving Bingley consecutive wins.
A similarly low scoring game for the seconds ensued as they took on Farsley. Bingley’s young bowling attack performed excellently as they dismissed Farsley for 144, it is a credit to the clubs youth policy to see 4 of the 5 bowlers all products of the clubs junior set-up, with the wickets been shared amongst Brad Davis (3-19), Romil Butt (2-23), Matthew Keeton (2-25), Ryan Norris (2-54) and Hamzah Iqbal (1-4).
It was once again youth (with the exception of Macca) that excelled with the bat as Bingley successfully chased down the target for the loss of 6 wickets. After losing key man Warren Allitt early, Richard McCarthy (24) & Will Grace (25) settled things with Steven Dunn (28) also making a contribution. The key innings came from Hamzah Iqbal, fresh from his 1st team debut last week, who saw the 2nds home with a fine 40 not out.
A rest week for the thirds due to the Tour de France, who face Haworth Road Methodists next Saturday in a key encounter as Bingley look to get their season back on track.
They also have a cup semi-final against Barrowford to look forward to

Leading Overall Table this week is: 2013 FANTASY CRICKET CHAMPIONS managed by Richard Foulder with 4159 points
