Week three of pre-season training started with another fantastic boxing session with Mally at Bradford College. I cannot overstate how fortunate the club is to have use of this great facility. Several olympic teams have paid good money to use it as a base, not just for the facilities but the excellent coaching of Mally and Kevin. Kevin has actually been seconded to work with the Nigerian team throughout the Olympics, congrats to him.
Thursday night saw good numbers again in attendance under the watchful gaze of Mr. Sunshine as Colin Stephens and Stuart Dixon ran a session on team structure.
Whilst it is still early in pre-season and each week some guys leave for Costa Del Skeggy and some return, the effort and enthusiasm is fantastic to see. Colin worked hard on our team attack patterns whilst yours truly looked at defence shape. The boys worked hard for an hour and everything was done through gameplay rather than old fashioned "drills".
I set the coaching team a challenge back in June, being that after each field session we would work the guys for no more than 10 minutes on fitness. This week it was Colin's turn, and he showed up with a brand spanker of a stopwatch. After 10 minutes came and went, I asked him if it was broken to which the reply came "No Dicko, I just want to see how high it will count!" So despite the sunshine, the guys still left the field absolutely drenched after another top weeks work.
