Having spent the month of July concentrating on physical conditioning and general rugby skills, it was unsurprising that we were undercooked for the Darlington Mowden Park challenge.
Only being able to muster 21 players for a 4 X 20 minute game did take it's toll and DMP were certainly very clinical in scoring some of their tries. Whilst it was disappointing that we never really threatened to cross the whitewash ourselves, it did give the coaching staff chance to see some of the guys who didn't get much first team rugby last season.
Seven days later we entertained Stockport, and whilst both teams would never claim to be at full strength, it was certainly a far more even contest. Bees improvement from seven days earlier was pleasing to see, in particular the second period when the side contained only 5 players who could claim to be 1st team regulars from last year.
This week we entertain our close neighbours from Keighley in the Peter Harrison Memorial Trophy. Hopefully there will be 1st and 2nd team games played back to back. This is dependent on whether each team has the resources with holidays and injuries, keep checking the website for updates.
As a final thought to all the glass half empty minded "supporters", there are no league points awarded for pre-season games :)
Keep smiling
