The visitors book ended the Bees first home game of the season with tries in the first and last minutes to claim a comfortable looking win, and took home a full haul of points as that final score from Liam Gill was their fourth of the game.

Between those scores there was little to chose between two evenly matched sides who both tried to play the game using the full width of the field. Both sides put together some crisp handling moves as the game ebbed and flowed up and down the immaculate Wagon Lane pitch.

Chester probably just had a slight edge and seemed to be that bit more incisive when they made a break. The Bees had talked about making a bright start but got off to the worst possible start as Josh Leech cantered home after 45 seconds.

After a Gavin Stead penalty opened the Bees account on 21 minutes it was the home side who took the lead as Stead finished off a superb handling move on 24 minutes.

The lead lasted only five minutes as Tom Blackwell rounded off a tremendous move from the visiting backline. Lloyd Hayes slotted the conversion then added a penalty as half time approached.

Chester were now enjoying the upper hand and their edge in the backline was rewarded by a score from full back Pat Coy.

The sides turned round at 22-8 and with the wind at their backs the two scores required did not look insurmountable for the Bees.

Man of the match Tom Cokell urged his men forward and although the Bees bobbed and weaved looking for an opening many of the Bees moves ended up a blind alley as Chester soaked up all that the Bees threw at them.

Captain Steve Brimacombe gave the Bees some hope with a score on 51 minutes but for all their bluster the Bees could not crack the Chester defence and the score at the other end which closed out the game was a fair reward for the visitors endeavour in this entertaining encounter.

Things do not get any easier for the Bees as they face consecutive away fixtures against tough looking opposition in Darlington Mowden Park and Birkenhead Park.
