Bradford Dudley Hill progressed through to the next round of the BARLA National Cup but not before a close call, with game switched to Stanley Rangers after the frozen pitch in Bradford led to a postponed fixture, after consultation with opponents Stanley it was agreed to switch the fixture to Wakefield.
BDH started well, making good progress up the hill at Stanley after losing the toss, a try from the Captain, Lewis Evans, converted by Tony Williams, Stanley hit back with a converted try to make the score 6 - 6, a further score after half time from Stanley took the game away from BDH, added to that a drop goal took the score to 13 - 6, BDH were on the rack and only a late score from Danny Thomas, converted by Williams and a very late drop goal from new signing Josh Essex ensured extra time would be played, with no score after 10 minutes of the first period of extra time, as soon as they turned around Stanley scored a converted try under the posts after a failed drop goal hit the posts rebounded and was taken by the Stanley Hooker, and it looked all going Stanley’s way, 2 minutes from after a great break from rookie full back John Bateman, the Hill were back in it with a try from Tony Williams who converted his own try and within 2 minutes had the opportunity to win the game with a 40, penalty which went wide, the game was locked up 19 - 19 after extra time, The game went into golden point.
5 missed attempted drop goals, one disallowed try from winger Dwayne Nelson, after 10 min of golden point, breaking from half way, half backs Thomas and Williams’s retuned passes and Thomas scored the winning try and the game was won 23 - 19.
