Ben Rhydding 2nd XI v Bradford 1st XI
Ben Rhydding 2 Bradford 2
Understandably , BHC were a little unsure of what to expect in their first outing in the Premier League for many a year , they need not have been too worried.
After an opening spell of sizing up the opposition , BHC took control and put in a very impressive 1st half display creating a number of goalscoring chances only to go a goal behind after 25 mins , somewhat against the run of play.
Undeterred and , growing in confidence , the visitors continued to play the shape very effectively and gaining just reward when Wiqas Khan put a well timed pass through to Simon Hinchliffe to finish well on 30 mins.
Simon now Club top scorer for the time being this season.
1-1 at half time and BHC were in a very positive mindset , already knowing that they would not be outclassed in this league.
Ben Rhydding , however , had other ideas and started the 2nd half strongly , determined defending from Guy Sutcliffe , Piers Wooler , Tom Handley and Man of the Match Matt Paine in particular kept the opposition at bay during an uneasy spell.
When the defence was breached , as usual , Danny cleared up any danger with a few well timed interventions.
BHC settled once again with James Hunt and Ethan Hodson causing all sorts of problems going forward , despite Ethan being bullied by a rather large gentleman in the home sides' defence (remember skill always outwits brute force)and , the noisy boy up front kept the opposition on their toes with some great running and attacking play.
After 48 mins , BHC gained a short corner , which , whilst not going entirely to plan , allowed Khalid Naseem to exhibit his mazy trickery in the 'D' and finish with some aplomb.
2-1 to BHC and all to play for.
The excellent Tom Handley , who had been a thorn in the home side's side all match , was rather harshly yellow carded for a stick tackle in the 'D' so , down to 10 men with not long to go.
With the home side throwing everything forward , BHC had an excellent chance to put the game to bed with a breakaway 2 v 1 on the opposition keeper , sadly , one of the two didn't realise the other was there , the other one didn't demand the ball - the win was there for the taking - opportunity missed.
with 7 mins remaining , a slight hiccup at the back gifted BRHC with an equaliser , which , on the balance of play , was probably no more than was deserved.
Overall , a very positive display , from which many good points can be taken - none more so that the performances of Luke Watson and Wiqas Khan , freshly introduced to the 1st XI this season and slotting in quite nicely thank you.
Impressive performances from all on the pitch today - much to look forward to.
Matt Paine may now be ruled out for a little while due to flatulence problems ( and also a pulled hamstring )however , we look forward to welcoming Richard Kent back into the fold next weekend and , in a couple weeks' time Nick Smith will have finished his stint at The Betty Ford Clinic and should be available again.
A tough encounter awaits BHC next week with a visit to a very strong Driffield side, however , on today's display , we can go there with confidence.
All in all , a very encouraging day indeed.
